Majkovi and Ston Gastro Tour

With this tour we will have visit to botanical garden in Trsteno, follow the old Napoleonic route into the rocky hills north of Dubrovnik and make a stop to the tiny village of Majkovi. Here you can taste some of the best domestic products our region has to offer: homemade cheeses, local olives, delicious dried meat, freshly baked bread, domestic honey made by our hosts, and of course a wide variety of homemade liquor and Croatian wine. You will visit a traditional „Kuća meda“, to learn how the honey is produced, and if you absolutely love it you can purchase a jar to take home! Continuing along the high Napoleonic road you will enjoy a majestic view of the Elaphiti islands as we descend into Ston, at the base of Pelješac peninsula. Ston was one of the first urban planned towns in Europe, it is home to the oldest working salt factory in Europe, the second largest stone wall in Europe (called the “Great Wall of Ston”) and some of the tastiest oysters in the Adriatic. During our walk through the town we will visit town's treasury. Few brave tourists are interested in walking the walls, which span 5.5 kilometers of steep hillside, but if you prefer to take a swim, drink a coffee, or sample fresh oysters, your guide will be happy to accommodate. On the way back to Dubrovnik, we can't wait returning to Majkovi for an extravagant homemade meal in the traditional Croatian style called “ispod Peke”. Our hosts in Majkovi will begin preparing it for you in the morning; fresh goat cheese, vegetables from the garden and homemade dressing for salad, young goat or lamb selected for the occasion and slow cooked all day under a large iron bell, or Peka. Seafood menu includes octopus or grilled fish. There can be no better way to finish off the day than enjoying a meal which is better than you could get in any restaurant in town.

Tripadvisor NinkandTel: „Our driver/tour guide was Zoran - he was a very pleasant man and looked after us well. We were a group of four couples. He took us up into the hills and stopped off at various scenic points. He also told us about the history of Dubrovnik and the relatively recent war. We enjoyed his company. In the evening, he took us to a family home in the hills to experience a typical home cooked meal - which was a very interesting experience and all delicious. The main dish consisted of lamb that had been roasted under coals in the outside oven. We were made very welcome and all felt it was well worth doing.“ Read more

Tripadvisor Glenda G: „What a terrific day we had with Igor - saw Dubrovnik and beyond from a resident's point of view, all in comfort with many stops along the way. Met local wine maker Tony at Curlin winery and came away with a bottle of his finest red plus his olive oil. Sampled true Croation hospitality at Anton's place - liquers and cake were sublime. Capped this off with a fantastic seafood lunch at Ston. Thanks Igor - looking forward to that BBQ when we return to Dubrovnik!“ Read more
